The village had a great honor in welcoming a visit from a member of the Bhartiya Janta party, one of the ruling parties of government. With her visit to the village, she helped to validate Sangrock Youth Empowerment Initiative's mission and trust was gained among the village members. They are beginning to believe that change is, in fact, possible. They are realizing that what we are saying is possible could actually happen.
During the event honoring the Bartha Janta member, several students of the Taekwondo school received their second degree black belt and certification. These students are in their 12th year of primary school or first or second year of college. They are the few students out of the hundreds who began several years ago to study Taekwondo at the Ekta Center. What started with hundreds of students at the white belt level dwindled down to just a dozen or so who have continued studying and practicing on their own and with instructors. Seeing this diligent handful honored publicly, many students who had left their studies expressed their regret and wished that they had continued. We are hopeful that this sense of regret will spur them on to not let go of other opportunities they may have, even when the way is long or the process difficult at times.
