EDUCATION PROJECTS
Rural village schools in several Indian states struggle with lack of infrastructure, investment, and interest. Quality teachers are unwilling to travel the distances required or to reside in the villages. The students are left with no instruction, and the school building is left abandoned...or to be used as a cow shed as was the case in the village of Barapur, Etah, Utter Pradesh in India.
Recent state government policies have allowed private organizations to adopt public schools. The government provides internet, basic furniture and curriculum, and a small monetary allotment for the salaries of educators. The organization adopting the school shoulders the responsibility of providing technology and any additional educational curriculum.
Sangrock Youth Empowerment Initiative has received authorization from the district manager to adopt the village school in the village of Barapur. We are actively working to gain the confidence of the local villagers, advocating the government for the improvements needed in both the school building and local infrastructure including clean water, sewer and electricity, and encouraging the youth of the village to see the value in an education. It doesn't take much persuading - these children are eager to learn! We are starting with preschool and elementary grades and looking to build on these and add the higher grades in the near future.
Rather than relying on a teacher's ability to travel the rural roads or reside in the village, Sangrock Youth Empowerment Initiative is capitalizing on the advancements made in virtual education during the recent pandemic. We are able to pay high-quality instructors to teach the children of these villages without the students needing to leave their ancestral homes.
We can't do this alone.
